Ursan has killed my outlook on GW. One of my guild officers is trying to force the usage of the classic Team Builds for some elite areas instead of just mindlessly using Ursan. I'm worried to see PvE fall like it did.

GW2 will need to come up with something that makes it more compelling than D3, Aion, or Warhammer.

The main problem I have with GW is that it's completely half-assed; it tries to cover several design concepts and ends up doing everything poorly. It's not a "skill > time" game anymore because of everything you can grind for - things that give tangible benefits. At the same time, it doesn't have the great rewards that many grinding games offer - no epic abilities or l33t l00tz. Similarly, the mechanics are just complicated enough that it's not an casual button-masher like Diablo has historically been, but it also doesn't have any top-end PvE difficulty due to PvE skills and consumables. In short, they've gotten pretty much all of PvE exactly wrong.

Ultimately, I'm more likely to go with D3 because I have more faith in the team's ability to deliver what I'm expecting - rather than the Anet team, which seems to have all the design direction of a headless chicken. Aion gets my vote because it's a game geared specifically towards pure cool - something that GW has always failed at.

Guild Wars WAS good once before. It was different compared to other online games out there and it was fun....

Unfortunately that changed with the release of Factions and so on...

I miss the time when it was only prophecies...

Aion is an entirely Korean project and hence will share Asian MMORPG sensibilities. Hope you love level and equipment treadmills.

Oh, I know what to expect; I've been through several Korean grindmachines. As I pointed out above though, grind in Asian MMOs actually gets you some pretty cool shit. Grind in GW gets you a dumb title, or squeezes out a few percentage points of effectiveness.

The only problem with that "cool shit" is that there's very little variation as compared to other Korean MMO's, free-to-play and otherwise. They all seem to share a very Lineage-ish look.

At least the graphics in Aion are pretty jammin'.

I'll be working full time, earning (hopefully) good money. I'm thinking that if GW2 sucks, I'll play a game that I know won't. So if there's a pay-to-play game that everyone is raving about I'm definitely gonna jump on that bandwagon.

I suppose I will try it, but if the alpha/beta sounds like it's bad, I'm not wasting my money.

Will it be a waste of money? Or time? Not sure, but I am curious to see what the development team has up its sleeve.
Am I looking forward to it, no, not really. I enjoy GW1 a lot at this point, so, don't really need a competing game.

I will buy GW2. But whether or not I play it depends on how it turns out. It had better capture the feeling I got of playing GW in the first few months. But seeing the way Anet has been taking things, I really doubt GW2 will be a game I will be playing.

The original GW idea of an introductory PVE story that leads to PVP and GVG action is what drew me to the game. I have seen that take a huge backseat over the years. If GW2 continues on that path I won't bother with it.

It's non-subscription hence I'd be a fool to say no.

Initially I maybe occupied on other MMO's but I know that at some stage I'll buy it and catch up with my GW1 buds.I won't be prioritizing it though, probably get it 6 months to a year after release me thinks and avoid all the HoM qq.
